My stratocaster guitar body keeps cracking!! HELP!!?
I refinished one of my guitars and a crack formed just behind the neck. I checked to make sure it went through the wood it did but only on half of the crack. another cracke formed just today inbetween the neck pickup rout and the middle pickup rout. I figured maybe its cause the paint is too thick and the wood cant breathe. Or possible because the guitar has not enough moisture in the body? i have no idea what it could be so maybe some of you guitar or wood experts could help me out by telling me what it is.

Cracks around the neck pocket are stress cracks. If you handle the guitar by the neck, that will cause it to crack there. Other things do also. Once the wood cracks it may continue to crack along that grain line.
If there was moisture in the wood, as it dries out it may crack. This is not like an acoustic needing humidity. With a solid wood body, if the lumber used for the body was not properly aged and kiln dried, it could still be wet when the body was cut. As the wood eventually dries, it may crack. I would not expect that in a good brand, like Gibson or Fender. Maybe in some off brand or even in a Epiphone or Squier. But I cannot imagine Fender or Gibson using green wood.
I have never heard of thick paint causing a crack. A guitar body will have a coat of sealer to close the pores in the wood (thus preventing it from breathing), then one or more color coats and finally one or more color coats. Once the sealer goes on, the wood no longer can breathe.
